In the sidebar, open **Bookkeeping**, then **Transactions**. The page address is `/bookkeeping/transactions`. The add window opens at `/bookkeeping/transactions/new`.

## Before you start

- Most lines should come from a statement import (see [[import-a-bank-statement]]). Add a line by hand for cash, a card that does not export, or a line the bank left out.
- Your role needs permission to manage transactions. Voiding needs its own permission.

## Steps

1. Under **Account** at the top of the list, pick the bank, cash or credit-card account the money moved through. The page starts on the first one.
2. Press **Add transaction**. The **Add transaction** window opens.
3. Set the **Date** the money moved. It starts at today.
4. Type the **Amount** as a plain number, for example 125.40. The currency shows under the box.
5. Under **Direction**, choose **Money out** for something you paid or **Money in** for something you received. It starts on **Money out**.
6. Type a **Description** so you can recognise the line later, for example the store or the customer.
7. Press **Add**. Nova shows **Transaction added.**, closes the window and the line appears in the list.

## What you see

- The new line shows in the list with its date, description, amount (money out has a minus sign), a **Status** of unreviewed and a dash under **Category**. It does not touch your books until you categorize it; see [[categorize-bank-transactions]].
- Closing the window after you have typed an amount or description asks whether you want to leave without saving.

## If something looks different

- **Add transaction** is greyed out: the account picked under **Account** uses a currency that is no longer your organization's currency, or you have no bank, cash or credit-card account yet. Choose a current account.
- **Add** stays greyed out: you have not typed an amount.
- A line is wrong and should never have existed: open the row's actions menu and choose **Void transaction**, or open the line and press **Void transaction** under **Correct an erroneous transaction**. In the **Void transaction** window, pick a **Reason category** (and type a **Business explanation** if you pick **Other** or your organization asks for one), then press **Void transaction**. Nova shows that the transaction was voided. The line stays in the list with the status voided and its history kept; only its effect on your books is removed.
- Voiding stops with a message about its reconciliation: the line is ticked in a reconciliation. Untick it there first, reopening the reconciliation if it is completed (see [[reconcile-a-bank-account]]).
- The amount is wrong rather than the whole line: void it and add it again with the right amount. Lines cannot be edited in place.
