In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Bookable Units** under **Jobs & Booking**. The page address is `/settings/org/schedule-inventory-units`. The page heading reads **Inventory units**.

## Before you start

- A bookable unit is something a booking can reserve: a rental generator, a service bay, a trailer. A technician is a schedule resource instead ([[add-a-schedule-resource]]).
- Give units of the same kind the same **Unit type**, such as "generator". An offering can then ask for "any generator" rather than one in particular.
- Your role needs permission to create bookable units. Otherwise **Add inventory unit** is missing.

## Steps

1. Press **Add inventory unit**. A drawer opens.
2. Type a **Display name**, such as "Generator 2".
3. Under **Unit type**, pick an existing type or type a new one.
4. **Initial status** is always active. Use the row actions after creation to change it.
5. Leave **Operational management** off for rental and reservable stock. Turn it on only for equipment your own company keeps and maintains; it then also appears as an operational asset.
6. Under **Branch**, pick the branch the unit belongs to, or leave it with no branch.
7. Add **Notes**, then press **Create inventory unit**.

## What you see

- The list shows **Name**, **Type**, **Branch**, **Status** and **Updated**. Search with **Search name or type**; **Filters** narrows by status, unit type and branch.
- Each row's menu offers **Edit**, **Take out of service** and **Retire**. A unit that is out of service or retired offers **Return to service**.
- **Manage columns** (the columns icon) adds **Operational**, **Notes**, **Maintenance reason** and other fields to the table.

## If something looks different

- The list reads "No inventory units yet." with a reminder to only turn on operational management for internal equipment.
- **Operational management** is greyed out: your role cannot create operational assets, so leave it off.
- Depending on your organization's reason rules, taking a unit out of service may first ask you to confirm and give a reason. Its booking and service history stays; it just cannot be reserved until you return it to service.
- A unit you took out of service or retired has gone from the list: **Filters** starts on **Active only**. Change **Status** to see it.
- An offering needs one of these: see [[create-an-offering]] and add a slot with **Slot type** set to **Inventory unit**.
