summary: Keep a list of the skills and certifications your work can require, so scheduling only offers people who are qualified for it.

In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Skills** under **Scheduling**. The page address is `/settings/org/schedule-constraints/skills`.

A skill is anything a person needs before they can be scheduled on certain work: a refrigeration ticket, a confined-space certificate, a language. Once the list exists, you attach skills to your people in [[assign-skills-and-territories-to-a-resource]].

## Before you start

- Anyone whose role can read scheduling skills can open the list. Creating, editing, deactivating and reactivating skills are separate permissions; ask your admin if a button is missing.

## Steps

1. Press **Add skill**. The **Add skill** drawer opens.
2. Type a **Name**, for example "Gas fitter licence".
3. Add a **Description** if the name alone is not enough. It is optional.
4. Press **Create skill**. The skill is created with an **Initial status** of active.

To change a skill later, press **Edit** on its row, change the **Name** or **Description** and press **Save changes**.

## What you see

- The list shows each skill's **Name**, **Description**, **Status** and when it was **Updated**. Use **Search skills** to find one, or the filter button to show **Active only**, **Inactive only** or **All**.
- **Deactivate** on a row retires a skill you no longer use. Nova asks you to confirm; assignment history is kept, and **Reactivate** brings it back.
- The column button adds columns such as **Skill reference** and **Created**.

## If something looks different

- **Add skill** is missing: your role can read skills but not create them.
- **Create skill** refuses with "Name is required.": type a name first.
- The list says there are no skills yet: nothing has been added. Create the first one to start assigning requirements.
