In the sidebar, open **Inventory**, then **Storage Locations**. The page address is `/inventory/locations`. The page heading reads **Inventory Locations**.

## Before you start

- Add your main warehouse or shop first, then each truck. Trucks are locations too, which is what lets you move parts onto a van and count what is on it.
- Your role needs permission to create inventory locations. Otherwise **Add location** is missing.

## Steps

1. Press **Add location**. A drawer opens.
2. Type a **Name**, such as "North warehouse" or "Van 3". It is the only required field.
3. Type a short **Code** if you label shelves and trucks, such as "WH-N".
4. Under **Type**, leave **Warehouse** or choose **Truck**, **Staging**, **Customer site** or **Virtual**.
5. Under **Branch**, search and pick the branch the location belongs to. Leave it empty for a location every branch shares; the list then shows **Organization-wide**.
6. To nest it, for example a shelf inside a warehouse, search under **Parent location** and pick the one above it. The parent has to be in the same branch, or in no branch.
7. Under **Mobility**, tick **Mobile stock location** for anything that moves, such as a truck. Choosing **Truck** as the type does not tick it for you.
8. Add **Notes** if it helps, for example which technician drives the truck.
9. Press **Create location**. The drawer closes and Nova shows "Inventory location created."

## What you see

- The cards at the top count **Total locations**, **Truck locations** and **Mobile stock points**.
- The list shows **Name**, **Type**, **Branch**, **Code**, **Parent**, **Status** and **Updated**. Search with **Search locations**; **Filters** narrows by type, status, branch and mobility.
- Press a row to edit it, or use its menu: **Edit** and **Deactivate**. A deactivated location shows **Reactivate** instead.
- The edit drawer lets you add a photo or icon so the location is easy to spot in pickers.

## If something looks different

- The list reads "No inventory locations yet. Create one to start organizing stock."
- Saving fails with a message that the parent "must belong to the selected branch": pick a parent in the same branch, or change the branch.
- **Deactivate** asks you to confirm. Past stock activity at the location stays on record.
- Nova refuses to deactivate with "Deactivate child inventory locations first": deactivate the shelves or bins nested under it first.
- Nova refuses with "Move or retire active assets before deactivating this location": serial-numbered units still sit there. Move them with [[move-stock-between-locations]] or retire them on [[add-serial-numbered-stock|Serial-Numbered Stock]].
