When you book on a company's booking page, it emails you about that booking, and texts you too if the company turned texts on. Messages give the date and time in the company's local time, for example "Tuesday, October 13 at 9 AM", with no time zone. Only an online booking with a company that works in more than one time zone names it, in words: "2 PM Eastern time". The name of the service appears only when the company chooses to show it. The messages about your request and payment also give your booking reference.

## Steps

1. Match the subject to what happened:
   - "Your appointment with" the company "is confirmed" (or "Your activity booking", "Your lodging reservation", "Your rental"): you are booked.
   - "We received your booking request" or "Your booking is pending approval": the company reviews it first and contacts you.
   - A reminder such as "Appointment reminder from", "Check-in reminder from" or "Pickup reminder from" the company: by default 24 hours before your booking starts.
   - "Check-out reminder from" or "Return reminder from" the company: for a stay or a rental, before it ends, if the company turned these on.
   - "Your appointment has changed" or "Your appointment has been cancelled" (with your kind of booking): the time changed or the booking was cancelled, by you on the manage page or by the company.
   - "Payment is needed to finish your booking", or "Your booking was approved - payment is needed": pay by the time shown, using the link in the message.
   - "Payment received for your booking": your payment went through. Use the link to see your booking's status.
   - "A booking spot is available": a time opened up for a waitlist you joined. Use the link to book it.
   - "Finish your booking with" the company: you started booking but did not finish. Its link brings back what you filled in, for 48 hours.
2. To change or cancel, use the manage page. See [[change-or-cancel-a-booking]].

## What you see

- The confirmation email does not always include the manage link. Keep the **Manage this booking** link from the page you saw after booking.
- Payment notices show the amount due and when the payment window expires.

## If something looks different

- If you ignore a confirmation or reminder, nothing changes: the booking stands.
- If you ignore a payment notice, the booking may be released when the payment window expires, and you get "Booking payment expired". Contact the company to book again.
- "Payment issue for your booking": the payment did not go through. Try again from the link, or contact the company.
- To stop booking texts, reply STOP. For emails, ask the company. See [[stop-emails-and-texts-from-a-company]].
