In the sidebar, open **Projects & Tasks**, then **Tasks**, open the task, and press the **Comments** tab. The page address is `/work/tasks/` followed by the task and `/comments`.

Comments are the running conversation about the task. Anything that should last, such as measurements or a gate code, belongs in a note or an access item instead ([[add-a-note-to-a-record]]).

## Before you start

- Reading and posting comments both need permission to comment on tasks. Without it the tab still shows, but it stays empty.
- The **Comments** tab only shows when your plan includes task comments.

## Steps

1. Type your message in **Add an update for this task**.
2. To make sure someone sees it, type their name in **Mention teammates** and pick them. Repeat for more people; **Remove** takes one off.
3. Press **Post comment**.

To change one of your own comments, press **Edit** on it, change the text or the mentions, and press **Save** (or **Cancel**). To take it down, press **Delete**. Only the person who wrote a comment can edit or delete it.

## What you see

- The comment appears in the list with your name and the time.
- Each person you mentioned gets a "You were mentioned" notification.
- The task's owner, assignee, collaborators and followers get a "Task comment" notification, unless they were mentioned or wrote it.
- **No comments yet** shows until someone posts.

## If something looks different

- **Delete** removes the comment straight away; there is no second question.
- **Could not update comment.** or **Could not delete comment.**: the comment may have been removed already. Refresh the page.
- The composer is missing and the list is empty: your role cannot comment, or the task is archived.
