In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Advanced Rules** under **Automation**. The page address is `/lifecycle-automation/profiles`. The page heading reads **Decision profiles**, or **AI policies & decision profiles** when AI features are switched on for your organization. Most companies never need this page; the defaults that come with each automation are enough. Use it when several automations should follow one set of rules about when to hold an action for approval.

## Before you start

- Reading profiles needs permission to view automation decisioning. Adding or changing them needs permission to manage decisioning; without it the **New decision profile**, **Edit**, **Activate** and **Archive** buttons are hidden.
- A profile's rules are written as a block of structured text in **Config JSON**. If you are not comfortable editing that, ask whoever set up your automations.

## Steps

1. Press **New decision profile** at the top right. The **Create policy profile** drawer opens. (With AI switched on, **New AI profile** creates the AI kind instead.)
2. Leave **Profile kind** as **Decisioning**.
3. Type a **Profile key**, a short unique name with no spaces, and a **Title** people will recognise.
4. Choose a **Scope**: **Organization** for every branch, **Branch** for one branch, or **Enterprise hub**. **Branch** asks for a **Branch ID**; **Enterprise hub** asks for an **Enterprise hub ID**.
5. Add a **Description** so others know what the profile is for.
6. Paste or edit the rules in **Config JSON**.
7. Press **Create profile**. The drawer closes and Nova shows **Lifecycle policy profile created.** The profile is saved as a draft.
8. **Current profiles** lists only the profiles automations use right now. Press **Archive** on a card to retire that profile.

## What you see

- Each card under **Current profiles** shows the status chip, the kind, a **Current** chip on the version in use, the title, the description or key, the rules block, the scope, the version number and when it was updated.
- **Edit** opens the same drawer as **Edit policy profile**, where you can change the **Title**, **Description** and **Config JSON**. The kind, key and scope are fixed once the profile exists. Only a draft can be edited; a profile that is in use answers with an error that only draft profiles can be edited.

## If something looks different

- The drawer shows a red error after you press **Create profile** or **Save profile**: the text in **Config JSON** is not valid. Check for a missing comma, quote or bracket and try again.
- The page reads **No profiles are visible**: no profile is in use yet.
- The profile you just created is not in the list: the list shows only profiles that are in use, and a new profile starts as a draft. This page does not offer a way to activate a draft; ask whoever set up your automations.
- The page says decision profiles are unavailable: your role cannot view decisioning. Ask your admin.
- You only want to stop messages going out at night or to people who opted out: that is not a profile, it is a guardrail. See [[set-automation-guardrails]].
