In the sidebar, open **Accounts**, then **All Accounts**, and open the larger
customer (the parent). Press **Actions**, then **Create sub-account**. The new
account form opens at `/accounts/new` with the parent already filled in.

A sub-account is a customer of its own, with its own contacts, work and
invoices, that is linked to a parent account. Use it when each part of a
larger customer is billed or handled separately. If the customer just has
more than one address, add an account location instead
([[add-an-account-location]]).

## Before you start

Your role needs permission to create accounts. If your plan's account limit is
reached, **Create sub-account** is greyed out; point at it to read why.

## Steps

1. Fill in the form as for any new account ([[create-an-account]]).
2. Open **Advanced fields** to check the **Parent account**. It already shows
the customer you started from; pick a different one if needed.
3. Press **Create account**.

## What you see

- The new account opens. Its **Account Details** section shows the
**Parent account** with a link back.
- The parent's **Account Details** section lists it under **Sub-accounts**.

## If something looks different

To link an account that already exists, open it, choose **Edit account** from
**Actions**, and set its **Parent account**.
