In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Tags** under **Records & Fields**. The page address is `/settings/org/tags`.

## Before you start

- Anyone with the tags permission can open a tag. Subscribing needs permission to subscribe to tags; editing needs permission to update tags; deleting needs permission to delete them.
- Tags that Nova provides carry a **System** pill. You can view and subscribe to them, but not delete them or change their key.

## Steps

1. Find the tag in the list. Use the search box or the filters if the list is long.
2. Press **Edit** on its row (it reads **View** if you cannot edit), or click the row. The drawer opens with the tag's name in the title.
3. Change **Name**, **Category**, **Description**, **Color**, **Sort order** or the **Applies To** chips. Switch **Active** off to retire the tag without deleting it.
4. Adjust **View Policy**, **Assign Policy**, **Remove Policy** or **Subscribe Policy** if who may use the tag has changed.
5. Press **Save**.

To be notified when someone changes a record that carries this tag, press **Subscribe** on the row, or in the **Subscription** section of the drawer. The same button reads **Unsubscribe** once you are subscribed.

To delete a tag, open it and press **Delete tag** at the bottom left of the drawer, then confirm with **Delete**. Nova deactivates the tag and removes it from every record and every subscription.

## What you see

- The **Subscriptions** column in the list shows how many people follow each tag; **Assignments** shows how many records carry it.
- An inactive tag shows an **Inactive** pill and is hidden from pickers, but records that already carry it keep it until it is deleted.
- To find retired tags, set the **Status** filter to **Inactive only**, or to **All statuses** with the **Inactive tags** switch on.
- Turn on **Subscribed only** under **Subscriptions** in the filters to list just the tags you follow.

## If something looks different

- The row reads **View** and the fields are greyed out: your role cannot update tags.
- **Delete tag** is missing: your role cannot delete tags, or this is a system tag.
- **Subscribe** is missing: your role cannot subscribe to tags. If pressing it shows an error instead, the tag's **Subscribe Policy** leaves you out.
