When the company bills you, it sends the invoice by email, text or both. The email's subject is "Invoice", the invoice number, then "from" the company's name. When a deposit is due before work starts, for example after you approve a quote, the email's subject is the company's name followed by "deposit required".

## Steps

1. Open the email and select its button:
   - "View invoice and pay securely" when you can pay online, or "View invoice securely" when you can only read it.
   - For a deposit, "Pay required deposit", or "Review deposit instructions" when online payment is not available.
In a text, select the link after "View invoice".
2. The invoice opens on a secure page with the company's name at the top, laid out like the paper copy.
3. Pay it from that page. See [[pay-an-invoice-online]].

## What you see

- Most invoice emails carry a PDF copy. The email itself has a "How to pay" section with the ways the company accepts payment, and the payments already received.
- Some companies ask you to pay by e-transfer and give the address; quote the invoice number with your payment.
- The invoice link works for 90 days unless the company set another time. A deposit link works for 30 days and only opens that one deposit request.

## If something looks different

- If you do not pay by the due date, the company may send payment reminders, and the invoice shows as past due in the portal. See [[payment-reminder-messages]].
- The link says it has expired or can no longer be used: ask the company to send it again, or sign in to the portal and open **Invoices & payments**. See [[see-and-download-an-invoice]].
- The page shows a **How to pay** panel instead of a **Pay** button: online card payment is off for this invoice. Use one of the ways listed.
- You already paid by another method: reply to the email so the company can record it.
