In the sidebar, open **Critical Alerts**, then **Setup**, then the list the record belongs to: **Rules**, **Sources**, **Destinations**, **On-Call Schedules**, **Templates**, **Recipes** or **Suppressions**. Press **Edit** on the record's row, or click the row. The page address becomes the list's address followed by the record, for example `/critical-alerts/rules/` followed by the rule.

A record's page is its edit drawer, open over its list: **Edit rule**, **Edit source**, **Edit destination**, **Edit schedule**, **Edit template**, **Edit recipe** or **Edit suppression window**. Copy the address to send a teammate straight to it; closing the drawer returns you to the list.

## Before you start

- Your admin has to give your role permission to manage that kind of record. Suppression windows are the exception: anyone who can view them can open one, but saving needs permission to update them.
- For rules, destinations, templates and schedules, what you save is a draft. Live alerts keep using the published version until you press **Publish** on the row. See [[publish-a-critical-alert-draft]].

## Steps

1. Open the record from its list, or paste its address.
2. Change the fields you need. The **Key** is greyed out; it never changes. Each form is explained in its own article, such as [[create-a-critical-alert-rule]].
3. Press the save button at the bottom of the form. It names the record, such as Save rule or Save source. Nova confirms with a message such as "Rule saved." and closes the drawer.
4. For a rule, destination, template or schedule, press **Publish** on its row so the change reaches live alerts.

## What you see

- Go back to an earlier version (rules, destinations, templates and schedules): scroll to **Version history** at the bottom of the drawer and press **Make live** beside the version you want. Nova confirms with a message such as "Rule live version updated."
- Place a test phone call: on a destination whose **Channel** is **Voice call** and **Destination kind** is **Phone number**, open **Voice playback overrides** and press **Send test call**. Nova places one real call with the current caller ID and voice settings and shows the result after "Last test call:". Tell the person first.
- Take a record out of use without deleting it: set **Status** to Disabled (Archived for a recipe) and save.
- Reach a source's signal address and tokens: press **Tools** on its row; see [[rotate-or-revoke-a-source-address]]. **Edit source settings** in that drawer brings you back here.
- On a suppression window, press **Preview impact** to see what it will mute, and fill in **Change reason** for the audit history. To end or archive one, see [[end-or-archive-a-suppression-window]].

## If something looks different

- Nova says, for example, "Rule doesn't exist." and shows the list: Nova cannot find that record in the organization you are signed in to, or it was deleted.
- Closing the drawer asks "Discard alert editor changes?": you have unsaved changes. Press **Keep editing** to go back to them, or **Discard changes** to close without saving.
- **Version history** is empty: the record has never been published.
- **Send test call** is greyed out: the destination is not a single phone number, or the number is blank. A test never rings a whole team.
- A suppression window reads "This suppression is archived. Restore it before saving edits or re-enabling the window." and its save button is greyed out: press **Restore** on its row first.
- A suppression window's save button is greyed out with no such note: your role can view windows but not change them.
- The page does not open at all: your role cannot manage that kind of record. Ask your admin.
