After a payment, the company can send you a receipt by email or text. Some companies send one every time, others only when you ask. An email's subject names the receipt and its payment number. A text starts with a short thank-you; payment details stay in the receipt. A refund gets a refund receipt the same way.

## Steps

1. Open the receipt. It starts "Thank you." and says the company processed your payment, or, for a refund, that it issued a refund for your payment.
2. Keep the PDF for your records if the company included one.
3. To see the invoice the payment went to, select "Review invoice securely". It opens the invoice, with the payment listed under **Payment history**. See [[see-your-past-payments]].

## What you see

- The amount, the payment number, how you paid, and the invoice it was applied to.
- A text includes a secure link when the payment has an invoice, and can include a PDF. Open the link or attachment for the details.
- A refund can take a few business days to reach your card or account, depending on your bank.
- A receipt from a store counter lists every item, the subtotal, taxes, total and how you paid. It has no link.

## If something looks different

- If you ignore a receipt, nothing happens. It is for your records only.
- No receipt came: not every company sends one automatically. Your payments are listed in the portal under **Invoices & payments**; or ask the company to send the receipt.
- You paid from a payment link and the page said **Payment submitted**: the receipt, when the company sends one, arrives once the payment is final. See [[pay-an-invoice-online]].
- Receipts are not automatic reminders and keep coming even if you asked to stop reminders.
