While an invoice has a balance, the company can remind you to pay it. The reminders go to whoever the invoice was sent to, by email, text or both:

- Before it is due, 3 days ahead by default. The email's subject is "Invoice", the number, then "is due soon", and it gives the due date and the current balance.
- On the due date, with the same wording.
- After it was due, 3 days later by default, then every 7 days up to 4 more times. The email's subject ends "is overdue".

The company can move these days.

## Steps

1. Select the button in the email, "View invoice and pay securely", or the link after "View invoice" in a text. The invoice opens on a secure page.
2. Pay the balance there. See [[pay-an-invoice-online]].
3. If you already paid, or cannot pay yet, reply to the message so the company knows.

## What you see

- The current balance, so a reminder after a partial payment shows what is left.
- Some reminder emails carry the invoice's PDF.
- Reminders stop as soon as the invoice is paid in full, or the company voids or credits it.

## If something looks different

- If you ignore the reminders, they keep coming on the schedule above until the last one, and the invoice shows as past due in the portal.
- You paid and still got a reminder: it may already have been on its way, or the company has not recorded a payment made by cheque, cash or bank transfer yet. The overdue text says so: "If you have already paid, thank you — please ignore this."
- Some reminders are not sent at all: companies choose which ones to use.
- To stop them, pay the invoice, or ask the company to stop invoice reminders for you. See [[stop-emails-and-texts-from-a-company]].
