To give you access to its customer portal, the company emails you a link to choose your password. The same email is used when the company invites you, when it sends you a fresh sign-in link, and when you ask for a password reset yourself. Its subject is the company's name followed by "portal password reset", and its button is "Set portal password".

## Steps

1. Open the email and select "Set portal password". The portal opens on a page to create your password.
2. Type a new password twice and select **Save and continue**. The portal opens your account. See [[sign-in-to-the-portal]].
3. Next time, sign in with your username and that password.

## What you see

- The email says "We received a request to reset your portal password", even for a first invitation. You can still use it to set up your access.
- It includes a code you can type instead of using the button, and says how many minutes the link works for.
- If you asked for your username, a separate email arrives with the subject "Your" plus the company's name and "sign-in name". It gives your username and a "Go to sign in" button.

## If something looks different

- If you ignore the email, nothing changes and the link simply runs out. Your account stays as it was.
- You did not ask for a reset and the company did not mention one: you can ignore the email; your password does not change unless someone uses the link. If it keeps happening, contact the company.
- The link says it has expired or was already used: ask the company for a new one, or use **Forgot password?** on the sign-in page. See [[get-back-into-the-portal]].
- These emails are sent because of an action on your account, so they are not stopped by opting out of reminders.
