In the sidebar, open **Administration**, then choose **Record Tabs** under **Workspace**. The page address is `/settings/org/record-dashboards`.

In **Settings**, each record type also has its own card that opens this page on that type: **Account Tabs** and **Service Asset Tabs** under **Accounts**, **Project Tabs**, **Task Tabs**, **Portfolio Tabs** and **Timesheet Tabs** under **Projects & Tasks**, and **Work Order Tabs** and **Booking Tabs** under **Jobs & Booking**.

Every record in Nova (an account, a work order, a project, a task, and so on) opens as a dashboard with tabs. This page sets the organization-wide default for those tabs. A person can still save their own view. **Customize tabs** in a record's **Actions** menu can set the tabs for one record, or for everything under one customer, and that wins over both. See [[customize-tabs-on-one-record]].

## Before you start

- Your role needs the saved views permission to see the page and the permission to manage view defaults to change anything. If everything is greyed out, ask your admin.
- Changes save as you make them. There is no save button.

## Steps

1. Under **Surface**, pick the record type you want to change: **Accounts**, **Work Orders**, **Projects**, **Tasks**, **Schedule**, **Service Assets**, **Portfolios**, **Time Sheets** or **Intake**. The page address changes to match.
2. Under **Tab order**, drag a tab by its grip handle to move it. Use the switch on the right of a row to hide or show that tab. At least one tab must stay visible.
3. Under **Defaults**, choose the **Default tab** that opens first. The chosen tab shows a **Default** badge in the list above.
4. If the surface has Files and Notes tabs, set **Default files view** and **Default notes view** to the layout those tabs open with, and **Files sidebar** and **Notes sidebar** to **Collapsed**, **Expanded** or **System default**.
5. If the surface has an **Access defaults** section, set the same for **Access sidebar**, plus the starting type filter, scope filter, search text, page size and whether deleted access records show.
6. If the surface has an **Overview rail** section, set **Rail state** and switch on the sections that should start open.
7. To start over, press **Restore this surface**. It puts every setting for this surface back to Nova's defaults.

## What you see

- Each tab row shows the tab's name and, under it, its short key.
- The **Experience profiles** section explains that labels, folder routing and role behaviour live on a different page. Press **Open Workspace Experience** to go there (it is **Work Modes** under **Administration**).
- Because changes save automatically, the next person who opens a record of that type sees the new layout, unless they have their own saved view or the record or its customer has its own tabs.

## If something looks different

- The grip handles and switches are disabled: your role can read views but not manage defaults.
- You cannot hide a tab: it is the last visible one. Show another tab first.
- A tab that is on here does not show on a record: that record or its customer has its own tabs, set with **Customize tabs**, or the tab belongs to a feature your organization does not have. This page lists every tab a record type can have.
