In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Location Types** under **Accounts**. The page address is `/settings/org/location-types`. The page title reads **Organization Location Types**.

A location type says what an address on an account is for: the shop, the site where the furnace is, the place invoices go. Types sort into five categories: **Billing**, **Service**, **Shipping**, **Mailing** and **Other**. This page lets you add your own and pick the default for each category.

## Steps

1. Open the **Add location type** section.
2. Type the name in **Label**. Nova fills in **Key** from it; you can change the key now, not later.
3. Pick a **Category**.
4. Turn on **Make default** if new locations in this category should use this type unless someone picks another. Each category has one default, so this clears the previous default in the same category.
5. Press **Add type**. The type appears under **Active types** in its category.

To change a type you added, open its card under **Active types**, edit **Label**, **Category** or **Make default**, then press **Save**. **Cancel** puts the fields back.

To reorder, drag the grip handle on a card within its category.

To retire a type you added, press **Archive** on its card and confirm in the **Archive location type** dialog. It moves to **Archived types**, where **Restore** brings it back. A type that came with Nova has no **Archive** button; press **Create override** first, then archive your copy.

## What you see

- Each card's preview shows the category, the key, **Default** if it is the default, and **System** for a type that came with Nova.
- A system type cannot be edited directly. Press **Create override** to make a copy that belongs to your organization, then edit the copy.
- Archiving hides the type from pickers and removes its default mark. Locations that already use it keep it.

## If something looks different

- **Add location type** is missing: your role cannot create location types.
- **Save**, **Archive** and **Restore** are missing: your role cannot update them.
- **Make default** is greyed out: the type is archived or is a system type.
