In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Nova Payments** under **Sales & Billing**. The page address is `/settings/org/billing/payments`.

## Before you start

- Have your legal business name, a billing email, your website, a support phone number and your bank account details ready. Nova asks for identity and bank details inside a secure form and does not keep raw documents or bank numbers itself.
- Your role needs the permission to manage Nova Payments. Without it the steps are read-only.
- Setup is in four steps: **Business info**, **Verification**, **Payment options** and **Launch**. A finished step reads **Done** even while you are looking at it; the step you are working on reads **In progress**; a step can also read **Under review**, **Needs info**, **Blocked** or **Pending**.

## Steps

1. Under **Business info**, fill in **Business name** and **Billing email**. **Country** and **Currency** come from your company details and cannot be changed here. **Website** and **Support phone** are marked **Recommended**; customers see the phone on receipts. Press **Save and continue**.
2. Under **Verification**, the step reads **Verify your business** and the secure form opens on the page. Work through it: it asks for identity, ownership, tax and bank payout details, and it may text a code to the phone on the account. If you already use Stripe for this business, the form offers to reuse the details it has already verified; choosing that skips re-entering them. Keep the page open afterwards while Nova checks the result. If you left the form early, press **Continue verification** to reopen it.
3. When you finish the secure form, Nova moves on to **Payment options** by itself, even while **Verification** reads **Under review**; being under review does not stop you finishing setup. If you go back to **Verification** once it is done, it shows **Verification complete**; press **Continue** to return to **Payment options**.
4. Under **Payment options**, leave **Card checkout** on so customers can pay invoices and deposits online, and **Offer eligible payment methods automatically** on so Nova shows the right choices at checkout, including **Google Pay** and **Apple Pay** where they apply. **Saved cards** is on: a customer can choose to keep a card on file at checkout, and nothing is charged without their say-so. Turn it off only if you never want cards kept. **Let customers pay over time (Affirm, Klarna)** is off: turn it on only if you want customers to be able to split a payment into instalments where Stripe offers it, because the fees for those payments are higher than for cards. Press **Save and continue**.
5. **Payment receipts** on the same step is on: Nova emails the customer a branded receipt when they pay online through Nova. Payments you record by hand follow the **Automatically send a payment receipt** switch on each one. **Refund notifications** is on as well: Nova emails the customer each time you refund a payment. So is **Ask customers to update a card that keeps failing**: when an automatic charge fails for good and only the customer can fix their card, Nova emails them a link to update it. Turn one off if you would rather tell customers yourself.
6. Under **Launch**, the page reads **Turn on customer payments.** and lists what will happen: pay online buttons on invoices, quotes and bookings, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link where they apply, the bank account your money lands in, and your rate. Press **Launch payments**.

## What you see

- Once the payment account exists, **Business info** shows a summary instead of a form. Those details are held with the account; press **Update business details** to change them in the secure form. **Billing email** is the one field you still change on the page; press **Save billing email** after editing it.
- **Country** and **Currency** are always locked on this page; they follow your company details.
- The step header has a refresh icon. Press it after finishing the secure form if the status has not caught up.
- On a first setup the **Verification** step is deliberately plain: one sentence and the secure form. Stripe asks for everything it needs inside that form, so Nova does not list the items separately or mark them late. Lists of outstanding items appear only if something needs attention after you have submitted.
- When verification is done, **Verification** shows a single **Verification complete** card. **Update business or bank details** on it reopens the secure form.
- If something on your side is unfinished, **Launch** reads **Finish setup before launch.** and each item has a **Fix** button. Most open the step to finish; one that only needs a fresh look at your account refreshes the status instead, and one for a closed payment account tells you to contact Nova support.
- While **Launch** waits on a check on Nova's side, a card says what is happening and the page checks again on its own every fifteen seconds. The time of the last check is shown under the card, and the refresh icon checks right away. **Checking Nova's connection to Stripe** means Nova has asked Stripe to confirm the connection, which normally clears by itself. **Nova is fixing its connection to Stripe.** means Stripe did not answer: Nova has been notified, and **Launch** unlocks on its own once the connection works. Either way there is nothing for you to do.
- After launch the page switches to tabs: **Overview**, **Bank account**, **Business details**, **Receipts & tips** and **Payment options**, with a status bar on top whose **Actions** menu holds **Refresh status**, **Pause payments** and **Close Nova Payments**. See [[check-on-nova-payments-after-launch]] and [[pause-resume-or-close-nova-payments]].

## What Nova emails you

- Nothing while you are doing the setup yourself. The page shows each result as it happens.
- A message titled Verification passed. Finish setting up Nova Payments, with a button to the next unfinished step, only if Stripe finished reviewing your details later, after you had left the page.
- A message titled You can now collect card payments, once, when you press **Launch payments**. It says customers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link, and names the last four digits of the bank account deposits go to. People who can see bank deposits but do not manage payments get a message titled Card payments are on, with a link to the **Bank Deposits** page.
- A message titled You got your first card payment, once, when your first customer pays by card. It names the amount and the customer, and says how many days Stripe holds a new account's first payments before the first deposit (the days come from your deposit schedule; "a few days" when Nova does not have it yet). Bank deposit arrived follows when that money reaches your bank, for the people on the deposit notice list. Payments made in test mode never send it.
- A message whenever Stripe needs something from you after setup: information that is needed, an overdue item, or a restriction on the account. Those always arrive by email. A request for information names the date it is due and says whether customers can still pay by card, for example "Card payments are still on. Send it by Oct 30 to keep card payments on." A restriction says why in plain words, and says so when there is nothing for you to do.
- A message titled Card payments are back on when whatever stopped card payments after launch clears. If you have paused or closed Nova Payments yourself, it is titled Stripe no longer blocks card payments instead, because card payments stay off until you turn them back on.
- A message when someone else who manages Nova Payments pauses, closes, resumes or reopens it. The person who did it is not sent one.
- A message titled Nova paused card payments for your business if Nova has to stop card payments for your business, for example to protect you from fraud. It gives the reason in plain words. Customers cannot pay you by card and automatic charges wait until Nova turns card payments back on; contact Nova support if you have questions. A message titled Nova turned card payments back on follows when Nova turns them back on. Both always arrive by email and in Nova, whatever your notification settings.
- A message titled The bank account for Nova Payments deposits changed whenever deposits start going to a different bank account, with the last four digits before and after. It goes by email and in Nova to everyone on the deposit notice list and everyone who can manage payouts, whatever their notification settings. If nobody on your team made the change, check who can manage Nova Payments right away.
- A notice in Nova, not an email, titled Nobody receives deposit notices when a deposit notice was due and nobody on the list could receive it. It comes at most once a week and opens the notification settings, where you choose who gets told about bank deposits.

## If something looks different

- **Verification** reads **Needs info**: the secure form needs more from you. Press **Continue verification** and complete the items it lists.
- **Verification** says card payments are available but payouts need attention: customers can pay, but Nova cannot deposit to your bank yet. Finish the payout items in the secure form on **Verification**.
- **Retry verification** appears: the secure form could not open. Press it; if it still fails, press the refresh icon and try again.
- The page says Nova Payments isn't fully set up on Nova's side yet: Nova has been told and will finish that part. Try again later; there is nothing for you to change.
- A secure form says Nova couldn't open this form: Stripe turned down the request Nova sent for it. Nova has been told and will fix it; there is nothing for you to change. Messages like this end with a support reference starting with perr_. Quote it if you contact Nova support.
- The step says the test account is outdated: this is a test setup that has to be reset before it can continue. Follow the reset prompt on the page.
- The page says the payment connection is inactive: the account behind this connection was closed or can no longer be reached. In a live setup, contact Nova support to reconnect it; in a test setup, reset the test connection to start a new one. Your payment history is kept.
