In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Service Asset States** under **Accounts**. The page address is `/settings/org/service-assets/states`. It is the **States** tab of the service asset settings.

An asset has two pickers: a status (how it is doing right now) and a lifecycle state (where it is in its life, from installed to removed). This page holds both lists, side by side under **Statuses** and **Lifecycle states**. Both panels work the same way.

## Before you start

- Your role needs permission to manage service asset settings.
- Think about which states should stop your team from adding new work to the asset. A removed unit should not get a maintenance visit.

## Steps

1. In the panel you want, type the name in the first box (it reads **Create status** or **Create lifecycle state**), and optionally a **Description** and **Aliases, comma separated**.
2. Tick **Terminal** if this is an end state, such as removed. A terminal state always blocks service work.
3. Tick **Blocks service work** if an asset in this state should not get new work, even though it is not the end. Nova then refuses to link the asset to new service work, such as a new work order.
4. Pick a colour. Choose a preset such as **Healthy**, **Ready**, **Attention**, **Blocked** or **Neutral**, or set your own.
5. Press **Create**. The option appears in the list.
6. To edit one, click it in the list (the first one is selected when the page opens). In the details form beside the list, change the name, description, aliases or colour, tick or untick **Active**, **Default**, **Terminal** and **Blocks service work**, then press **Save**.
7. Use **Up** and **Down** at the top of the panel to reorder the selected option.

## What you see

- Each option in the list shows its colour, how many assets use it, a green check when it is active, and markers: **Default** for the one new assets start with, **Terminal** for end states and **Blocks** when service work is blocked.
- The colour appears wherever the status or state shows in Nova, including the asset pickers and filters.
- An empty list reads **No options configured.** and its details area reads **Choose an option to edit.**

## If something looks different

- **Create** is disabled: the name is empty or the colour is not a valid hex value.
- **Blocks service work** is ticked and greyed out: **Terminal** is on, which always blocks.
- The page says this area is not enabled for your organization's plan: service assets are not turned on. Ask your admin.
