In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Workforce Tracking** under **Scheduling**. The page address is `/settings/org/workforce-tracking`. The page heading reads **Workforce tracking**.

## Before you start

- Your role needs permission to update schedule resources or schedule settings. Otherwise the policy is read-only and **Save policy** is disabled.
- Your plan has to include workforce tracking. When it does not, the badge next to **Tracking policy** reads **Limited** even with everything switched on.
- Turning tracking on here does not start tracking anyone by itself. Technicians still need a connected source, such as the mobile app, to report in.

## Steps

1. Under **Tracking policy**, switch **Enable workforce tracking** on. This is the master switch for the organization.
2. Switch **Allow background updates** on if the mobile app may keep reporting while work is active, even when the app is not open on screen.
3. Switch **Require technician acknowledgement** on if each technician has to accept tracking before Nova treats their tracking as compliant.
4. Switch **Allow live location visibility** on if dispatchers and admins may see a technician's current position, not just their status.
5. Under **Tracking scope**, choose when tracking is accepted: **Work order only** (only while tied to scheduled work), **Work session only** (any active work session) or **Workday** (across the workday).
6. Press **Save policy**. Press **Reset** instead to throw away unsaved changes.

## What you see

- The counters at the top show **Sources**, **Devices**, **Active sessions**, **Stale**, **Offline** and **Failed ingest**.
- **Sources, devices, and ingest** lists the **Provider catalog** (tracking providers you can connect), **Configured sources**, **Active sessions**, **Registered devices** and **Failed ingests**. Each shows a plain message when it is empty, such as "No active technician sessions in the current scope."
- **Reporting exports** offers three CSV files: **Current state**, **Attention required** and **Source health**. Press **Queue export**; Nova confirms the run is queued and the file appears in the export center when it is ready.
- **Open workforce status** and **Open the schedule** at the top jump to the live pages.

## If something looks different

- The badge reads **Limited** after saving: your plan narrows the policy. An **Effective policy notes** box below **Tracking scope** explains which parts apply.
- **Save policy** stays disabled: nothing has changed since the last save, or your role cannot change the policy.
- You want to see who is reporting right now rather than change the rules: see [[check-workforce-status]].
