In the sidebar, open **Settings**, then choose **Folders** under **Records & Fields**. The page address is `/settings/org/content-organization`.

Nova keeps things flat by default. This page is where you turn folders on only where your organization needs them.

## Before you start

- Anyone whose role can read content organization settings can open the page. To change it, your admin has to give your role permission to write those settings; otherwise a banner says you have read-only access.
- Your plan decides which cells you can use. A cell that reads **Not in plan** cannot be switched on here.

## Steps

1. Under **Starting point**, press a preset to fill the whole table: **No folders**, **Files only** or **Folders everywhere**.
2. Under **Folder availability**, find the row for the **Record type** you want (work orders, accounts, projects and so on).
3. Turn the switch on or off in each of the **Files**, **Notes** and **Access** columns. Every cell your plan includes carries the label **Enabled** next to its switch, whether it is on or off; the switch itself shows whether folders are on.
4. Press **Save changes**.

## What you see

- **Not supported** means that record type never has that tab, so there is nothing to switch.
- This table is the organization default. A customer can turn folders on or off for its own tabs and for everything under it, and a single customer or work order can set its own answer from **Folder settings** in its **Actions** menu. Those choices win over this table in both directions; see [[turn-folders-on-or-off-for-one-record]].
- If your plan does not include per-customer and per-record folder settings, a note says this table is the whole answer everywhere.

## If something looks different

- Saving asks **Hide these folder controls?**: you switched folders off somewhere that already has folders. The message counts the folders, filed items, template bindings, automatic routes and portal shares affected. Nothing is deleted; the folders are hidden and everything stays filed. Press **Save and hide folders** to go ahead or **Keep editing** to change your mind.
- Leaving the page with unsaved switches shows the unsaved-changes prompt. Save, or discard the changes.
- Folder controls are still missing on one record after you turned them on: that record, or its customer, has folders switched off in its own settings.
