Preview a customer, work order or invoice without opening it

Rest the pointer on any link to a customer, contact, site, work order, task, project, booking, quote, invoice or payment to see its key details in a small card, then open it or act on it.

Updated in release 0.0.1 Open this page in Nova

Anywhere in Nova that a customer, contact, site, piece of equipment, work order, task, project, portfolio, booking, quote, invoice, payment, agreement or teammate appears as a link, you can see its key details without leaving the page you are on — for example from the customer column on Work Orders (/work-orders) or a list of invoices (/invoices).

Steps

  1. Rest the pointer on the link for a moment. A small card opens beside it.
  2. Read what you need. A customer shows its main contact, phone, email, address, balance and open work orders; a work order shows its status, customer, site, when it is booked and who is assigned; an invoice shows its total, what is still owed and when it is due.
  3. Move the pointer into the card to use it. Its buttons open the record, call or email the person, get directions, or Log time with the clock icon on a customer, work order, task, project or booking. The time drawer opens with the record chosen; select Enter time or Start timer there. A booking card logs against its customer. An active timer offers Stop timer. Links inside the card go straight to that record.
  4. Press Copy details to copy the card as plain text, ready to paste into a message.
  5. Move the pointer away, or press Esc, to close the card. Selecting the link itself always opens the record, exactly as before.

With a keyboard

Tab to a link and wait a moment: the card opens. Press Tab again to move into the card's buttons, and Tab past the last one to carry on down the page. Esc closes the card and puts you back on the link.

On a phone or tablet

A tap opens the record as usual. Press and hold the link to see the card as a sheet from the bottom of the screen; swipe it down or tap outside it to close.

Record numbers in messages

When a text message, email or note mentions a record number such as a work order or invoice number, Nova turns it into a link you can preview and open — but only for records in your business that you are allowed to see.

If something looks different

  • A card only shows what you are allowed to see. Without access to billing, balances and totals are left out; without access to contact details, phone numbers and emails are left out.
  • An archived customer shows Archived on its card. You can still open it and read everything on it.
  • If a card cannot load, press Try again in the card. If it says the record is not available, it was deleted or you do not have access to it.
