Add a passkey
Set up a passkey so you can sign in to the portal with your fingerprint, face or screen lock instead of a password and a code.
Select your name at the top right of the portal, then How you sign in. Scroll to Passkey. The page address ends in /security.
Before you start
- A passkey is stored on your phone, computer or password manager and unlocks with your fingerprint, face or PIN. Nothing is typed, so there is nothing to steal.
- The Passkey card only appears on a device and browser that can create passkeys.
Steps
- Under Passkey, select Add a passkey.
- If the portal asks you to Confirm it’s you, enter a code from a method you already have. The portal then carries on adding the passkey.
- When your device asks, confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN, and choose where to save the passkey. The button may read Waiting for your device… meanwhile.
What you see
- The passkey is listed under Extra sign-in step. Select Rename to give it a name you will recognise, such as the phone it lives on.
- On the sign-in page, after you type your username, Continue with passkey appears. See Sign in to the portal.
- You can add more with Add another passkey, one for each device you use.
- Your first passkey also switches on the extra sign-in step, and the portal opens Save your backup codes so you have a way in if you lose the device. See Turn on two-step verification.
If something looks different
- The Passkey card is missing: this device or browser cannot create passkeys. Try your phone, or a current version of your browser.
- Your device cancelled or nothing happened: select Add a passkey again and approve the prompt when it appears.
- To remove a passkey, select Remove beside it under Extra sign-in step, then Remove method. Keep another way to sign in before you do.
