Save a card for faster payment

Add a card under Saved cards and autopay in the portal, make it your default, allow automatic charges when the company offers them, or remove a card.

Updated in release 0.0.1 Open this page in Nova

In the portal's sidebar, open Billing, then Saved cards. It scrolls to the Saved cards and autopay panel at the top of Invoices & payments. The page address ends in /invoices. If the panel is not there, your access does not include paying online.

Before you start

  • The panel appears only when you signed in with your own username and the company lets you pay online. A link that opened one invoice does not show it.
  • If the panel shows Card payments still being prepared, the company is still finishing its card setup, and no cards can be added yet. Come back later.

Steps

  1. Under Saved cards and autopay, tick the box agreeing to save the card. Card details stay inside the secure form; the portal keeps only the card brand, the last four digits and the expiry.
  2. Make the new card the default for billing is ticked already. Untick it if you want to keep your current default card.
  3. Tick Authorize future automatic charges if you want recurring or scheduled bills collected without another checkout. It is greyed out when the company has automatic billing turned off.
  4. Select Add saved card. The secure card form opens.
  5. Enter the card and select Save card securely.

What you see

  • The card is listed with its brand and last four digits. Default marks the card used first, and each card says Saved for checkout only or Future charges authorized.
  • The badge at the top reads Autopay ready once a default card is allowed for automatic charges, or Needs card until then.
  • A card with Future charges authorized is what the company uses for recurring or scheduled bills. When you pay an invoice yourself, you enter the card in the payment form. See Pay an invoice online.

To change cards:

  • Select Make default on another card to use it first.
  • Select Remove on a card, then Remove card to confirm. Past payments stay as they are; future payments need another card.

If something looks different

  • No saved cards yet.: nothing is saved. Add one with the steps above.
  • Saved cards disabled: the company does not offer saved cards for your account.
  • The box for automatic charges is greyed out with a note about billing settings: the company has automatic billing turned off. You can still save the card for faster checkout.
  • A card says it is not supported here: it is a payment type this page cannot use. Add a card instead.
