Choose which form opens when someone adds an account

Pick whether Add Account, and the option to create an account from an account picker, opens the short quick add or the full account form for everyone in your organization.

Updated in release 0.0.1 Needs permission from your admin Open this page in Nova

In the sidebar, open Settings, then choose Create Defaults under Accounts. The page address is /settings/org/account-create-defaults. The page title reads Account create defaults.

Nova has two ways to add an account: Quick add, a short form with the essentials, and Full add form, the complete account editor with contacts, locations and billing. This page picks which one opens first for everyone in your organization. Nobody is locked in: the other form is always one click away.

Before you start

  • Anyone who can read organization settings can open the page. Changing it needs permission to change organization settings; without it the choices are greyed out.
  • Both choices are Quick add until someone saves this page.

Steps

  1. Under Add Account action, press Quick add or Full add form. This decides what opens when someone presses Add Account on All Accounts (or the lead and customer versions of that button), and when someone creates an account from the summary after a call.
  2. Under Inline account creation, press Quick add or Full add form. This decides what opens when someone types a name that is not found in an account picker and chooses to create it, for example while writing a quote or an invoice, on the Schedule, or on a project, task or booking. Quick add opens a Create account panel; the full form opens Create account in full editor. Either way the person stays on the page they were working on.
  3. Check your choice: the chosen card is marked Active and the other Select, and the line at the bottom repeats both settings.
  4. Press Save changes. Nova says Account create defaults saved.

Reset throws away the choices you have not saved yet and puts back what is saved.

What you see

  • The next time anyone adds an account, the form you chose opens.
  • On All Accounts, the arrow beside Add Account still offers the quick form and the full form, so a person can pick the other one for a single account.
  • On the quick form, Open full form carries what was typed into the full form. On the full form, Quick add instead goes back.

If something looks different

  • Save changes is greyed out: nothing has changed yet, or your role cannot change organization settings.
  • The page says you do not have access: your role cannot read organization settings.
  • You want to change which addresses a new account needs: that is a different page, see Decide which addresses a new customer needs.
  • To see the forms themselves, see Create an account.
