Change an asset profile and upgrade its assets
Make a new version of an asset profile, publish it, compare it with older versions, then move each asset onto the new version or archive a profile you no longer use.
In the sidebar, open Settings, then choose Asset Profiles under Equipment & Fleet. Press a profile's name, or Builder on its row. The page address is /assets/profiles/ followed by that version of the profile, and the heading is the profile's name.
A profile is versioned so the rules an asset was checked against never change behind its back. You change a profile by making a new draft version, publishing it, and then moving assets onto it. To build a profile from nothing, see Create an asset profile.
Before you start
- Making a draft needs permission to create asset classes; saving it and archiving need permission to update them; publishing needs permission to publish them.
- A published or superseded version opens read-only with a blue note. Only a draft can be edited.
- Moving an asset onto a new version needs permission to update operational assets.
Steps
- On the published version, press Create draft version. Nova copies it into a new draft, says "Draft profile version created from the current builder values." and opens the draft.
- Change what you need: required contents, supplies, documents, meters, checklists, service programs or Readiness settings. The Profile key stays fixed across versions.
- Press Save draft. Nova says "Operational asset profile draft updated." Reset throws away changes you have not saved.
- To see what changed, choose an older version in Compare to version under Version history. Selected diff lists each difference; Open version opens any version.
- Press Publish profile, then Publish profile again in the dialog. Nova says "Operational asset profile published." The old version becomes superseded, and classes linked to it now point at the new one.
- Move an asset onto the new version: open the asset from Equipment & Fleet, then Assets. On Overview, find Profile drift and upgrades.
- Choose the new version in Profile; the list starts on the asset's current profile. Type an Apply note if you want one.
- Leave Instantiate missing contained assets and Create document placeholders ticked if Nova should add parts and document records the new version requires.
- Press Upgrade profile (it reads Apply profile when no upgrade is waiting). Nova confirms which way it applied the profile.
What you see
- On the asset, upgrade available means a newer version is published, and drift detected means the asset no longer matches its profile. Drift summary lists up to five differences, and settings made on the asset itself are kept through an upgrade.
- To upgrade many assets at once, tick them on the asset list and use Bulk profile: see Find an operational asset.
- Archive profile retires a profile. Give a reason if asked; Nova says "Operational asset profile archived." Archived profiles are no longer offered on asset pages and cannot be published again.
If something looks different
- Create draft version is missing: you are already on a draft, or your role cannot create profiles.
- Save draft stays greyed out: Validation and actions lists what is missing, or you are on a published version.
- Publish profile is missing: the version is not a draft, or your role cannot publish.
- Upgrade profile stays greyed out on the asset: Profile is set to Use current effective profile, or your role cannot update assets.
- "Asset profile not found" shows: the link points at a version that no longer exists. Press Return to profiles.
