Change or deactivate an asset class
Rename an equipment family, change its readiness policy or default profile, publish a draft class, or deactivate a class you no longer use.
In the sidebar, open Settings, then choose Asset Classes under Equipment & Fleet. Press a class's name, or Builder on its row. The page address is /assets/classes/ followed by the class, and the heading is the class's name. An asset's page links here too: press the class name under Operational identity.
To make a new class, see Create an asset class.
Before you start
- Saving and deactivating need permission to update asset classes; publishing needs permission to publish them. Without them the fields are greyed out and the buttons are hidden.
- A class's status only changes with Publish class and Deactivate class. The Status field on this page is read-only.
Steps
- Read the tiles: Class status, Linked profile, Category and Readiness policy.
- Under Class identity, change what you need: Class name, Category, Asset kind, Default readiness policy, Linked current profile, Icon key, Color key or Description. Only published profiles are offered as the linked profile.
- Check Linked profile preview. It shows what the chosen profile makes every new asset of this class carry.
- Press Save class. Nova says "Operational asset class updated." Reset throws away changes you have not saved.
- If the class is still a draft, press Publish class, then Publish asset class in the dialog. Nova says "Operational asset class published."
- To stop using a class, press Deactivate class. Give a reason if your organization asks for one, then press Deactivate asset class. Nova says "Operational asset class deactivated."
What you see
- Open linked profile at the top opens the profile this class points at: see Change an asset profile and upgrade its assets.
- When a new version of the linked profile is published, the class moves to it on its own, so the tile shows the newest version.
- Lifecycle on the right shows the status and when the class was created and last updated.
- Deactivating hides nothing that already exists: assets of the class keep it, and the class stays in the Class Registry with its status.
If something looks different
- Save class stays greyed out: Validation and actions lists what is missing, such as a class name, or your role cannot update classes.
- Publish class is missing: the class is already active or inactive. Only a draft is published.
- There is no button to turn an inactive class back on from this page. Ask your admin before you deactivate a class you might need again.
- If you leave with unsaved changes, Nova asks whether to discard them.
- "Asset class not found" shows: the link points at a class that no longer exists. Press Return to classes.
