Set up operational assets
Use the Asset Setup admin page to manage asset profiles and classes in one place, connect a vehicle tracking provider, and re-run readiness processing by hand.
In the sidebar, open Settings, then choose Asset Setup under Equipment & Fleet. The page address is /settings/org/assets. The heading reads Operational Asset Setup.
Before you start
- Without permission to view operational assets the page shows You do not have access to operational assets. The forms stay greyed out unless your role can create or change asset classes; Activate and Publish only appear for roles that can publish them.
- Profiles and classes belong to the whole organization: set the branch picker in the top bar to All branches first.
- Tracking (telemetry) and Automation Administration only appear for roles with those permissions.
Steps
To add a profile:
- Scroll to Operational Asset Profiles. Type a Profile Key and a Name, and choose a Profile Kind (Generic by default, or Fleet, Kit, Site equipment, Power support). Category Hint, Asset Kind Hint and Description are optional.
- Press Create Asset Profile. The profile appears in the table as version 1, in draft.
- In its row, press Edit draft to change a draft (then Update Draft Profile), or New version to start the next draft (then Create Draft Version). A profile has one draft at a time.
- Press Activate, then Activate profile. That version becomes current, the previous active version is marked superseded, classes and assets on older versions move to it, and Nova rechecks their readiness.
- To retire a version, press Archive, give a reason if asked, and press Archive profile.
To add a class:
- Scroll to Operational Asset Class Governance. Type a Class Key and Name, then choose a Category (Fleet by default) and an Asset Kind (Equipment by default).
- Pick a Default Profile or leave No default profile. Set Initial Status (Draft or Active) and Readiness Policy (Standard, Strict or Advisory Only), then press Create Asset Class.
- In its row, press Edit (then Update Asset Class), Publish on a draft (confirm with Publish asset class), Deactivate on an active class, or Reactivate on an inactive one. Deactivating and reactivating ask for a reason if your organization requires one.
To run readiness processing by hand:
- Scroll to Automation Administration. Leave Automation scope on All visible operational assets, or type in Targeted operational asset search and pick one asset under Automation scope.
- Press Process Automation. Nova rechecks readiness, runs the matching asset automations (opening, updating or closing internal tasks) and shows the counts. One press covers at most 50 assets. Day to day this runs on its own.
What you see
- The dark banner links to Open Operational Registry, Open Operational Reports, Open Operational Asset Automations, Open Notifications, Open Exports and Open Audit. Refresh Admin Data reloads every section.
- Add telemetry source connects a tracking provider: choose a Provider, give a Source Key and Display Name, fill in the references your provider gave you, and press Create Telemetry Source. Telemetry Integrations then shows Source health, Devices needing attention and Open reconciliation cases.
- Operational Reporting Snapshot repeats the headline counts from Asset Reports.
If something looks different
- "Asset profiles require organization-wide access. Clear branch scope and retry.": switch the branch picker to All branches. If it persists, your access is limited to some branches; ask an admin.
- "A draft asset profile version already exists": edit that draft instead. Activate on an archived version fails; press New version on it and activate the new draft.
- "Asset profile category must match the selected asset class": the profile's hints must match the class.
- The profile form's advanced box asks for structured text. If you are not sure what to type, use the full builder: see Create an asset profile and Create an asset class.
- The telemetry form is greyed out: your role cannot manage tracking sources. Ask your admin.
