Create a portfolio
Group related projects under one portfolio from the Portfolios page, name and describe it, or build it from a template, and archive it when the program of work is done.
In the sidebar, open Projects & Tasks, then Portfolios. The page address is /work/portfolios, and a new portfolio opens at /work/portfolios/new. A portfolio is a group of projects that belong together, such as every site in a rollout for one property manager, so you can follow the whole program from one place.
Before you start
Your admin has to give your role the Create portfolios permission. Without it, New Portfolio does not appear.
Steps
- Press New Portfolio at the top of the Portfolios list. The New Portfolio page opens.
- If your organization has portfolio templates, Start point offers Blank portfolio or From template. Leave Blank portfolio selected to start empty.
- Type the Name.
- Add a Description so the team knows what the program covers.
- Press Save. Nova opens the portfolio.
- To put projects in it, pick this portfolio in the Portfolio field when you create or edit a project; see Create a project.
What you see
- The Portfolios list shows each Portfolio with its number, Status and when it was Updated. Type in Search portfolios or press Filters and narrow by Status (Active or Archived).
- The Portfolio number field at the top of the form is optional; Nova assigns the next number if you leave it blank.
- The note under the form reads that you can archive portfolios later.
If something looks different
- Name is required. appears: type a name and press Save again.
- You chose From template: pick the Template, the name field reads Portfolio name, and a Template version field appears. If the template bundles projects, a tick box offers to create them with the portfolio, and an Account field appears because those projects need a customer. Leave the box ticked and pick the customer, or untick it to create the portfolio on its own.
- Nova says an account is required in template mode: the template creates projects, so pick the customer they belong to.
- To edit a portfolio, open its row menu and choose Edit. To take it out of active work, choose Archive; Archive this portfolio? opens, asks for a reason if your organization requires one, and finishes with Archive portfolio. The portfolio stays on the list with the Archived status; choose Restore in its row menu to bring it back, confirming with Restore portfolio. Archiving needs the Archive portfolios permission.
- No portfolios to show.: none exists yet, or the filters excluded them all.
