Find and restore deleted items

Find recoverable deleted content, preview retained PDFs on demand, and track individual or bulk recovery operations.

Updated in release 0.0.1 Open this page in Nova

Open Administration, then Data, then Recycle Bin, or choose Recycle Bin in the Media Center. The old Advanced settings address opens this page too.

Find an item

Search by name and filter by type. Open More filters for original location, deletion dates, recovery status and history views. Items appear newest first. Choose the list icon for a compact list or the grid icon for cards. Click the name of the person who deleted an item to filter by that person.

Only items you can currently access appear. Your branch selection applies where the owning module uses branches. Recovery and permanent deletion require the owning module's permissions. An indexing notice means older entries or file entries are still becoming available.

Cards show file-type icons without loading thumbnails. Press the eye button Preview PDF to open a retained, safety-cleared PDF. Opening the bin or an item's details does not load its file content. Other file types can be restored and then opened through their normal module.

Restore items

Press Restore on an item, or select rows and choose Restore selected. Select this page selects only the displayed page. Confirm the operation and provide a reason when your organization's draft policy requires one.

Your recovery operations shows progress even after you leave and return. Expand failures to see what needs attention. Restore missing parents or resolve conflicting names, then retry failed items.

  • Files restore eligible attachments removed with that file. Independently removed attachments are separate items.
  • Removed attachments return to their original record only while the source file and record remain available.
  • Folders restore the folder itself. Former contents and child folders stay where they are now. Restore a missing parent first and resolve duplicate folder names before retrying.
  • Old public sharing credentials remain revoked; restored file attachments use internal visibility. Share the item again if needed.
  • Email restores through the inbox's provider synchronization. The provider controls its Trash retention. Its deletion timestamp is when Nova observed it in Trash.
  • Discarded invoice, quote, purchase-order and vendor-bill drafts have a 30-day recovery window. Posted, voided and cancelled business history stays in its own workflow.

Retention and permanent deletion

Awaiting cleanup means the retention deadline passed but the content has not yet been removed. Restore may still succeed until cleanup takes ownership. Recovery window expired means a draft can no longer be restored.

Authorized file operators can select Permanently delete and confirm the irreversible action. Other items follow their module's retention policy. Protected content may refuse removal.

Recently restored shows recovery history you can still access. Organization administrators with access across branches can view redacted Permanent deletion history. History is retained for 90 days and cannot restore purged content.

Archives, financial corrections, revoked credentials, temporary uploads and privacy erasure use their respective workflows.
