Use the portal link the company emailed you
What the portal invitation, sign-in link and password reset email is, why it may say "password reset" even when you asked for nothing, and the email with your username.
To give you access to its customer portal, the company emails you a link to choose your password. The same email is used when the company invites you, when it sends you a fresh sign-in link, and when you ask for a password reset yourself. Its subject is the company's name followed by "portal password reset", and its button is "Set portal password".
Steps
- Open the email and select "Set portal password". The portal opens on a page to create your password.
- Type a new password twice and select Save and continue. The portal opens your account. See Sign in to the portal.
- Next time, sign in with your username and that password.
What you see
- The email says "We received a request to reset your portal password", even for a first invitation. You can still use it to set up your access.
- It includes a code you can type instead of using the button, and says how many minutes the link works for.
- If you asked for your username, a separate email arrives with the subject "Your" plus the company's name and "sign-in name". It gives your username and a "Go to sign in" button.
If something looks different
- If you ignore the email, nothing changes and the link simply runs out. Your account stays as it was.
- You did not ask for a reset and the company did not mention one: you can ignore the email; your password does not change unless someone uses the link. If it keeps happening, contact the company.
- The link says it has expired or was already used: ask the company for a new one, or use Forgot password? on the sign-in page. See Get back in when you forgot your password or username.
- These emails are sent because of an action on your account, so they are not stopped by opting out of reminders.
